The missing diagnostic competence in healthcare

Abstract:

Können Altenpflegekräfte die Pflegebedürftigkeit kompetent einschätzen? Verstehen Pflegekräfte das gleiche unter Pflegebedürftigkeit, wie ältere Menschen, welche pflegebedürftig sind? Was hat das nun mit Professionalität zu tun? Die umfassende Einschätzung des Grades der Pflegebedürftigkeit ist eine wichtige Grundvoraussetzung, um im Rahmen des Pflegeprozesses Ziele und Pflegemaßnahmen ableiten und einer späteren Evaluation unterziehen zu können.

Are geriatric nurses able to assess the need of care competently? Do the nursing staff understand the need of care alike to elderly people who actually need to be cared for? What has this got to with professionalism? Comprehensive assessment of the degree of needed care is an important and basic prerequisite for the derivation and, in due course, the evaluation of purposes and adequate care-taking measures within the scope of the nursing process.
